MIT requires all first year students to live on campus for the duration of their first year at MIT.
Fitness Rooms in Residence Halls
Housing & Residential Services furnishes all equipment in residence fitness rooms. Use all equipment at your own risk, be mindful of other users, and observe all fitness room rules.
Furniture in Residence Halls
Residents are responsible for all furniture in their room and may not remove furniture from a residence hall lounge or apartment common area.
Gender Inclusive Housing
Gender-inclusive housing is a policy that provides MIT students with the option to live in residences with whomever they choose, regardless of biological sex, gender, or gender identity.
Graduate Housing Sublicensing
Graduate Housing residents may sublicense their unit to another member of the MIT community during defined periods over the Independent Activities Period (IAP) and the summer.
Guests in Residence Halls
A guest is anyone (MIT or non-MIT affiliated) who does not live in the residence hall they are visiting. Residents are permitted to have guests and must follow the guidelines below.
Hazardous Materials in Residence Halls
The possession, manufacture, storage, or use of hazardous materials in residence halls and FSILGs is prohibited.
Health and Sanitation in Residence Halls
Residents are expected to maintain living areas, including kitchens and bathrooms, in a safe and sanitary condition.
Housing Alterations
Residents are required to maintain their rooms and their residences in the same condition as at the time of move-in, aside from normal wear and tear.
Housing Check-Out Procedures
When leaving MIT housing, you must remove all personal belongings or trash and return your room to its original condition.
Housing Fees
Please take care of your spaces and vacate your room in good condition at the end of your stay to avoid any additional charges and ensure a smooth transition for the next occupant.

Housing Policies
All residents in MIT housing agree to read and abide by all MIT housing policies in the undergraduate housing and dining agreement or graduate housing license agreement.
Keys & Building Access
Each resident (with the exception of certain minors in graduate housing) is provided with a room/apartment/suite key(s) upon moving into their MIT housing assignment, which they are responsible for.
Leave of Absence for Graduate Students
Graduate students taking a leave of absence are not eligible to reside in graduate housing.
Leave of Absences for Undergraduates
Students who have taken leave and are not registered are required to vacate their on-campus housing assignment within 72 hours following official leave.
Mail and Package Delivery
Do not mail packages to your residence before you move in. You will be notified by the front desk when your package has been processed and is ready for pickup.
Meal Plan Requirements
Meal plans are required for students living in Baker House, Maseeh Hall, McCormick Hall, New Vassar, Next House, and Simmons Hall.
