Policies to Review

MIT Student Organization Handbook

A guide to accessing the privileges and fulfilling the responsibilities of being part of a student organization at MIT. Together, we can keep our community strong, inclusive, and accountable.

Alcohol Guidelines for Events

All events must follow Institute funding rules, state laws, liquor license requirements, and responsible service.

Amplified Sound at Events

Amplified sound requires CAC (and SOLE for student orgs) approval, is limited to certain locations/times, must be adjusted on request, and may be shut down if disruptive.

Food Trucks at Events

Only food trucks that have been approved by the City of Cambridge are permitted  to operate on the MIT campus.

Metal Detectors at Events

CAC coordinates metal detector use with MIT Police and SOLE. One event requiring a metal detector is possible per night allowed. See Student Org Handbook for details.

Protest and Demonstration Events

Notify demonstration-planning@mit.edu at least three business days before campus protests to ensure safety, policy compliance, and minimal disruption.

Outdoor Event Spaces

CAC outdoor spaces require coordination for rentals, waste removal, and trade services. Outdoor events must follow MIT policies, sound rules, and safety guidelines.

Promotional Booths and Tables

Recognized student organizations and DLCIs may reserve promotional tables to recruit, fundraise, or share information.

Tents for Events

Tents require planning 30+ days in advance. CAC can help with rental, setup, and breakdown.
