Furniture in Residence Halls

Residents are responsible for all furniture in their room and may not remove furniture from a residence hall lounge or apartment common area.

Residence Hall Rooms

All rooms in MIT residence halls — with the exception of most rooms in graduate residence halls Westgate Apartments, and Edgerton House — are furnished with:

  • Bed and mattress (twin extra-long, 38″W x 80″L)
  • Dresser and/or wardrobe
  • Desk, chair, bookshelves (lamps are not provided)

Residents are responsible for the furniture supplied in the room. Students may not remove furniture from their rooms or move furnishings from one residence hall room to another. Residents will be responsible for any damage or loss of furniture supplied in the room.

Common Areas

Students may not remove furniture from a residence hall lounge or apartment common area. Residents will be responsible for any damage or loss of furniture within common areas, including furnishings, vending machines, and other equipment placed in the residence hall for the use of residents.

Waterbeds

Waterbeds are prohibited in any MIT residence hall or apartment building.
