Undergraduate Emergency Support Request

Student Support Services (S3) supports undergraduates with essential needs such as food, winter clothing, or emergency travel. All requests should be made through the form.

Urgent Requests

If you are in need of urgent assistance on the weekends, weekdays 5PM–9AM, or when the Institute is closed, please be in touch with the Dean on Call at 617-253-1212

The Undergraduate Emergency Fund is a resource to help undergraduate students cover unforeseen, essential expenses, such as emergency travel, winter clothing, or food.  Student Support Services can make purchases on behalf of students or reimburse eligible expenses.

Students who need support should make an appointment to discuss their situation with an S3 dean before submitting the Emergency Fund Request Form.  Your dean can help determine whether your expense is eligible for Emergency Fund support or if there are other more appropriate resources available.

If you are requesting funds for an expense you already paid, you will need to provide an itemized receipt – credit card or bank account statements will not be accepted.  Please note that reimbursements are subject to federal regulations and will be treated as taxable income.  For more information on taxes, please visit SFS’s Tax Resource page.

Some expenses are not eligible for Emergency Fund coverage, including:

  • Tuition, on-campus housing, and other costs that may be covered by financial aid.
  • Non-emergency travel, including travel to/from MIT at the start or end of a semester.
  • Computer purchases
