Our Mission

OSCCS facilitates student growth and learning through an educational conduct process that upholds MIT’s values and community standards. We fulfill our mission by supporting students and collaborating with the Committee on Discipline (COD) and other campus partners.

To fulfill our mission, we:

  • Facilitate the MIT student conduct process
  • Advise student judicial committees
  • Offer a wide array of workshops and presentations to help students understand community values and standards
  • Promote community standards of behavior and support the academic mission of the Institute by enhancing students’ academic achievement as well as personal and ethical development

Commitment to Inclusive Practices

We are committed to carrying out our work in a manner that meets the needs of our diverse community. We do this by:

  • Continually educating ourselves and our stakeholders
  • Intentionally engaging in inclusive practices
  • Striving to refine our procedures to reduce bias
  • Appreciating students’ intersecting identities and acknowledging our own power and privilege

As a pledge to implement these strategies, we understand that inclusive practices are always evolving, and thus commit to regularly revisiting them.

Incident Procedures

The COD receives and acts on three types of complaints related to students and student organizations: academic misconduct, personal/general misconduct, and sexual misconduct. You can learn more about the COD’s process on the Incident Procedures page.

We provide support and resources for students who need to make an incident report or who are identified as a “respondent” in an incident report. We also work with faculty and staff throughout the COD process for both filing reports and providing ongoing support for students.

Advisor and Mentor Programs

OCSSC provides advisors and mentors to assist students in the COD process. These individuals receive training in order to provide personal and logistical support. Students can be connected to an advisor by contacting our office. If you’re interested in training as an OSCCS advisor or mentor, learn more on the Faculty page.
