Heat South Asia Photo Exhibition a public lecture by Bhumika Saraswati
Bhumika Saraswati is an award-winning Indian journalist, filmmaker, and educator documenting overlooked narratives on gender, caste, climate, and health. Raised in a Dalit household, her work is deeply personal and globally resonant. She has earned international recognition, including the UN-Laadli Media Award and Human Rights Press Award. Bhumika founded Kranti Collective, a community space in New Delhi, and leads Unequal Heat, a project exploring the disproportionate impact of rising temperatures on marginalized communities. Ogemdi Ude Artist in Residence
Join Gus Solomons Jr. Visiting Artist Ogemdi Ude for an hour-long, hands-on workshop introducing participants to the creative practices behind Major, her current project exploring the history and physicality of majorette dance. In this dance theater piece, Ude and her collaborators uplift Black femmes - inclusive of queer and trans folks - in a practice that explores community, sexuality, and our relationships to home. DIRECTIONS:
ACCESSIBILITY: A wheelchair-accessible lift can be found on the western side of Building 50. A swinging door on the opposite eastern end of the large room will lead to an elevator. Upon exiting the elevator on the second floor, make a left and the Rainbow Lounge is in front of you.
FRONT ENTRANCE: If you take the staircase that faces the Charles River you may walk up the staircase to the third floor, walk across the gym/testing center, and then down the second floor to the Rainbow Lounge. Or once you enter Walker you can take the staircase down to the basement, take the hallway all the way to the back of Walker, then go up the staircase to the first floor and then the staircase to the second floor. The Rainbow Lounge doors will be in front of you.
BACK ENTRANCE LEFT: If you’re facing the back of Walker, the left staircase is the one that faces East Campus (building 62) and closest to Ames Street. To the staircase into Walker then walk up the staircase to the second floor. The Rainbow Lounge doors will be in front of you.
BACK ENTRANCE RIGHT: If you’re facing the back of Walker, the right staircase is the one that is closest to Building 14, and the black structural sculpture that’s in the courtyard. Take the staircase into Walker, then enter into Morss Hall, take a left to the pink swing door in the corner which you will enter into a kitchen. There is an elevator you can take to the second floor, or you can take the metal spiral staircase to the second floor and around the corner to the left is the Rainbow Lounge.
