Resources and Reminders for Winter Break
December 9, 2025
With winter break on the horizon, the Division of Student Life (DSL) wants to remind you that most campus services will be closed from Thursday, December 25, 2025, to Sunday, January 4, 2026. The following resources are available if you need additional support:
- Student Wellbeing: Refer to this helpful list of well-being resources and local events during the winter break. You can also find other support services, including 24/7 and after-hours resources, on the DoingWell website.
- MIT Dining: Fall meal plans will end after dinner service on Friday, December 19, 2025, and house dining operations and campus retail dining locations are paused during winter break. IAP weekly dining plans are available for purchase with meal service at New Vassar. Please consult the MIT Dining page for the latest IAP dining information. Any dining questions may be directed to foodstuff@mit.edu.
- Housing & Residential Services: All residential security and cleaning services will remain available, as will 24/7 operational support for urgent repairs, lockouts, or maintenance needs. Dial (617) 253-1500 and ask for “Unit-12.” While the campus populations are lower during winter break and IAP, all guest and express guest lists will be temporarily paused. This means that all guests will need to check in at the Security Desk and be escorted by their hosts while in the building. HRS administrative offices will be closed during the Institute holiday.
- Before you leave your dorm: If you plan to leave over winter break, be sure to lock windows and doors and report any damage. Leave your heat on low to prevent frozen pipes. Remove perishable items from your living space and unplug electronic devices.
- Consider housing options: Housing Intent opens February 10, so begin thinking about where you want to live for the next academic year.
- Residential & Community Life: Don’t hesitate to reach out to your Head of House, GRA, or RPM in your residence.
- Dean on Call: Staff are available to help with urgent or critical issues while the Institute is closed. To reach the Dean on Call, call MIT Police (617-253-1212) then ask to speak to the Dean on Call. (Available Monday through Friday, 5 pm–9 am, and on Saturdays, Sundays, and all MIT-observed holidays.)
- Food Security and Financial Resources: MIT offers a number of resources to help students find nutritional support or short-term emergency funding due to hardship or unforeseen circumstances.
- Recreational Facilities: The DAPER website has information about accessing recreational facilities, fitness classes, and fitness areas during the break.
- Parking and Transportation: The Tech, Daytime, and Grocery shuttles will not operate from December 25 through January 4. SafeRide fixed-route shuttles will operate on holiday routes and schedules from Thursday, December 25, through Friday, January 16. Transit passes will not be distributed at the Atlas Service Center over winter break. If you want your transit pass mailed to you, please contact Robynn Cruz-Walker to confirm your mailing address no later than Monday, December 15. Otherwise, you can pick up your pass at the Atlas Service Center starting on Monday, January 5.
