Sam Gest

Sam is the Assistant Director for the Violence Prevention and Response office and advisor to the student educator group, PLEASURE. With a background in community health and violence prevention, he utilizes a systems framework to understand how violence occurs and to inform prevention strategies. He has also worked for sexual health education organizations and views comprehensive sexual health education to be an important tool in dismantling systems of violence and oppression. Sam comes to MIT from Boston University, where he earned a Master’s degree in Public Health and worked as a graduate assistant for the Sexual Assault Response and Prevention Center (SARP), while leading the undergraduate SARP ambassador program. Sam also attended Ithaca College earning a degree in Journalism. Sam is a lover of sports, and finds immense joy in bouldering, watching and playing soccer, and getting outside (when the weather is nice). He also enjoys good food, a gripping suspense novel, and a quiet night watching tv.
