Postering

Paper event flyers are an effective way to advertise upcoming events or provide information about your organization. To use public bulletin boards in high-traffic spaces, you must follow certain guidelines:

  • Only poster in designated spaces — Note that some spaces are limited to use by departments, labs, centers, and institutes
  • Limit to one poster per group, per board
  • Follow size restrictions — Up to 22″ x 17″ total per group per board
  • Include all key information — Sponsoring party; contact information; date

Additional details are available on the ASA website.

Poster Removal

Posters are taken down by Facilities on a routine basis. While you may poster over old flyers, you should not tear down or remove posters. Posters outside of designated areas will be removed and may be subject to ASA sanctions.

Chalking

Groups may use chalk to advertise events on sidewalks provided:

  • All chalking is done only on walkways and paths around campus, not on vertical surfaces such as the sides of buildings and also not on the stairs to Lobby 7 or the Student Center.
  • Chalking may only be done with washable chalk. Spray paint chalk should NOT be used.
  • Facilities has a rule that classroom boards may not be used for advertising; groups may be fined by Facilities for doing so.

In addition to possible sanctions from the ASA, groups may be charged by CAC or Facilities for cleaning costs.
