Kat Waxstein

Assistant Dean

Kat Waxstein (she/her) serves as Assistant Dean of the Student Organizations, Leadership and Engagement (SOLE) Office at MIT. In her role, Kat provides support, advice, and direction to and for MIT students, student activities, groups, and organizations, particularly in the area of leadership development. She values that her role allows her to develop students as leaders, engage them in their community, and instill within them a commitment to lifelong learning. In her opinion, the most rewarding part of her work is creating opportunities to initiate dialogue among students regarding differences and similarities in their backgrounds, identities, values, and experiences, which leads to intellectual and personal growth, understanding, and appreciation of others.

Kat has a Bachelor of Science degree in Child and Family Studies, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, and a Master of Science degree in College Student Personnel all from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (Go Vols!). Prior to serving in her role as Assistant Dean, Kat served as Director of Student Leadership Development in the SOLE Office. Before joining the MIT community, Kat served as Assistant Director for Leadership Development at Boston College and as a Teach For America Corps Member in Memphis, TN.
