How to Join
Membership to the Hobby Shop is open to MIT students, staff, faculty, retirees, alumni, and their spouses.
The membership fee can be paid by cash or check or TechCASH at the Hobby Shop and also by internal requisition on the MIT Atlas navigation site.
We cannot accept debit or credit cards.
First-time members must also attend a one-hour orientation. Orientation is given most weeks, typically Wednesdays from 1-2 pm. This can change, however, so please email or call (617) 253-4343 to confirm.
The CAM (Computer-Aided Machining) class is for users who would like to learn to use the computer-controlled milling machine or router. The class focuses on how to use MasterCAM software to program the CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines. Please email us to confirm that the class will be happening, or if you cannot make it to the scheduled time. Bring a notebook to the class, as there are many essential points to cover.
The waterjet class is for users who would like to learn to use the computer-controlled waterjet machine. Please email us to confirm that the class is happening, or if you cannot make it to the scheduled time. Bring a notebook to the class, as there are many essential points to cover.
Orientations: For laser training or welding training, email us.
If you have an @mit.edu email address, add yourself to Hobby Shop News on your Athena List site.
Please read the Hobby Shop Rules and then print and fill out the Membership Agreement Form to bring it to the Orientation
