MIT Residential & Recreational Activities

Housing and Residential Services

HRS includes housing operations for all MIT graduate and undergraduate residential facilities, including housing assignments, repair and maintenance, communications, summer conference housing, and residential security. As stewards of the spaces where students live, eat, study, socialize, recreate, and build community, staff of HRS are responsible for ensuring that residences are welcoming, safe, and effectively supporting MIT’s distinctive residential experience.

Fraternities, Sororities, and Independent Living Groups

The Fraternities, Sororities, and Independent Living Groups Office supports, advises, and advocates for all FSILG organizations and their student members in a shared-governance system. The FSILG Office is a primary resource to develop leaders and coordinates opportunities for members in a diverse and enriching learning environment. The Office collaborates with dedicated alumni/ae and campus partners to ensure that the FSILG community is achieving its goals and students and organizations are reaching their highest potential.

Social Justice Programming & Cross-Cultural Engagement (SPXCE)

With a student-centered approach, the Social Justice Programming & Cross Cultural Engagement Intercultural Center (SPXCE, pronounced "space") works to foster a more inclusive, equitable, and affirming MIT campus climate. As a collaborative initiative between the Office of Intercultural Engagement (i.e.), Women and Gender Services (WXGS), and LBGTQ+ Services, the SPXCE provides intersectional social justice education, support, community-building, and leadership development.

Priscilla King Gray Public Service Center

The PKG Center is the epicenter of public service at MIT. Public service is a springboard to take your learning beyond the classroom and into communities around the world through internships, fellowships, and public service projects.

MIT Recreation

The mission of the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation is to bring students, faculty, and staff together in educational activities that promote healthy lifestyles, enhance a sense of community, foster growth in leadership and teamwork skills, and encourage the pursuit of excellence.

Women’s Initiative

Women’s Initiative is a student group at MIT dedicated to encouraging more women to pursue degrees and careers in Engineering. During the month of January, enthusiastic women from the School of Engineering at MIT are selected to speak with high school girls nationwide about the excitement of careers in engineering. The presentations include activities to engage students in thinking about engineering concepts, demonstrations of projects on which the presenters have worked, and information about the different engineering fields and the life of an engineering student.

MIT Work Life Center

The MIT Work-Life Center fosters a welcoming and supportive environment for all the diverse people who live, work, and study at MIT—and for their families as well. Our policy and advocacy work at the Institute is a catalyst for change, bringing MIT such innovations as the adoption benefit, state-of-the-art child care facilities, job-flexibility guidelines, and special reports on teens and young adults. Our work not only improves the quality of life here—it has made MIT a role model for organizations around the world.
