MIT Academics

Office of the First Year (OFY)

(617) 253-6771; firstyear@mit.edu

Our mission is to provide excellent services and programs to catalyze student exploration and access to opportunity, and promote the academic success and personal development of undergraduates. Our programs enrich and support undergraduate education at the Institute.

Office of Graduate Education (OGE)

(617) 253-4860; odge@mit.edu
An Institute-wide support and referral office for graduate students and graduate administrators. The ODGE complements administration in individual schools and departments and advocates broadly for greater education.

Office of Minority Education (OME)

(617) 253-5010; ome@mit.edu
Our mission is to promote academic excellence, build strong communities, and develop professional mindsets among students of underrepresented minority groups, with the ultimate goal of developing leaders in the academy, industry, and society.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)

(617) 253-7306, urop@mit.edu
UROP projects are research-based intellectual collaborations of MIT faculty and undergraduates. Undergraduates may participate in each phase of research activity: developing a research plan, proposal writing, conducting research, analyzing data, and presenting results in oral and written form.

Women’s and Gender Studies (WGS)

(617) 253-2642, wgs@mit.edu
Through interdisciplinary teaching, research, and programming, WGS provides analytical frameworks for the examination of gender, race, ethnicity, class, and sexuality. Our mission is to educate MIT students about the importance of gender equity, and to promote critical thinking about the role of gender across disciplines and in all areas of life. WGS supports women and gender non-conforming students and upholds the Institute’s efforts to foster community, equity, and inclusion.
