Community Catalyst Leadership Program
Established in 2007, the Community Catalyst Leadership Program (CCLP) asks participants to engage in a journey of personal leadership development and reflection. Each participant is paired with an MIT alumnus/a in a coaching relationship designed to meet each student's personal development goals. This program is open to students regardless of prior participation in leadership opportunities at MIT. There are four components of the program: one-on-one coaching, educational sessions, leadership planning, and personal reflection.
About CCLP, students have said:
“My leadership goals this year were to be more inclusive of every person on my respective teams and making each of them feel important and respected for contributing to our goals. In general, I am very good at balancing big personalities and working to compromise with them to get on the same page as everyone else. However, I struggle to develop strong relationships with the quieter or more cooperative team members because my attention is on the strongest personality. Over the past two years, I have realized that MIT students work best together when they feel personally responsible for the group and that everything that they do for the team is important.”
"The Community Catalyst Program taught me the importance of giving feedback to those I work with, so I took it upon myself to make sure I listened to the needs of the MIT student mentors before suggesting ways in which they could improve and be more involved as mentors. I learned that servant leadership is often effective because people are more likely to do things if they themselves will benefit from doing so.”
After a series of conversation with his coach plus CCLP workshops, one student shared, “I began to realize what an important concept leadership actually was. It is not just upper management decision making in a student club or asking others for feedback. It is a way of life: making decisions through your values, making your actions reflect your ideals, not taking shortcuts, connecting with people, and growing with the values of other people.”

FOR CURRENT STUDENTS IN CCLP: E-Portfolio Senior Project - Senior Project Guidelines.
Due November 8, 2017
Senior participants in CCLP are required to complete an E-Portfolio through seelio.com (a tool for creating online project portfolios) that represents specific ways in which their project/initiative was enhanced due to the leadership skills, guidance and support received through the CCLP Program. Seniors will be present at the Networking Workshop on November 8, as part of a “Leadership Gallery. This event is an opportunity for coaches and current CCLP participants to gain a perspective on lessons learned, areas of growth and strength identified and a vision realized as a capstone project for seniors. Coaches and fellow coachees will offer written feedback for presenters on the strengths of their project and presentation style as well as suggestions for improvement if students want to use their portfolios in a job/graduate school search.
Projects should be an electronic portfolio made on Seelio that should include the following:
- Your name, and an "About Me" Section
- A tab offiering a brief descriptionof the project or initiative that the participant took on during their CCLP experience (or currently was involved in at the time of application)
- A tab giving an explanation (visual or written) of how the project was enhanced through the initiative:
- Model the Way
- Enable Others
- Inspire a Shared Vision
- Challenge the Process
- Encourage the Heart
- A tab which includes lessons learned from the experience; what were the successes? What were the failures? Areas of continued growth? Sustainability of the project/intiative?
- Your current resume
*If you are unable to attend the evening of the networking reception, you must send Elizabeth (firstname.lastname@example.org) your E-Portfolio by 12 noon on November 8.
Need support/guidance on your e-portfolio? Contact SAO Graduate Assistant Katie Lindahl (email@example.com) who works in SAO Mondays 10-3, Tuesdays 10-4 and Thursdays 10-2. Set up a 15-minute review session where Katie can take a look/offer feedback about your e-portfolio. Also, please review your e-portfolio ideas at your October coach meeting and feel reach out to a fellow CCLP coachee and share your e-portfolios.
