What is LeaderShape?

MIT LeaderShape is an intensive four-day leadership development experience for both undergraduate and graduate students that takes place over IAP. Participants will be asked to wrestle with such challenging topics as professional ethics, dealing with uncertainty, working within a diverse community while developing skills in areas of problem-solving, and interpersonal communication. Over the course of the program, students will develop a community among their peers, facilitated by MIT faculty and staff cluster leaders and student veterans of the program.
LeaderShape takes place at an off-campus retreat site in southern Massachusetts, allowing students the opportunity to fully engage in the leadership experience. LeaderShape is an intense, four-day experience where you not only build upon leadership skills, but you have the opportunity to share with and get to know others on a deeper, more personal level. Although it is not an expectation of LeaderShape to share personal stories and/or insights, you are strongly encouraged to participate in the full experience.

Past faculty and staff involved in LeaderShape include:

Gloria Anglon, Assistant Dean, Diversity Initiatives, Office of Graduate Education

Gustavo Burkett, Senior Associate Dean for Diversity and Community Involvement (MIT Division of Student Life)
Peter Fisher, Department Head and Professor of Physics
Kirk Kolenbrander, Vice President, Office of the President
Tracy Purinton, Director, MIT Leadership Center
Karen Singleton, Chief of MIT Medical’s Mental Health and Counseling Service
