Are there support staff in undergraduate residence halls to help students?
Yes, every residence hall has a fully staffed House Team that will assist your student throughout their years at MIT.
- Housemasters are tenured faculty members in residence halls who support the students through mentoring, hosting events, and helping House Teams foster a strong and unified community.
- Acting as mentors, community developers, and advisors, the Graduate Resident Tutors (GRTs) live on each wing/floor/entryway to be accessible to students as they navigate through the academic year. From roommate issues to how to cook pasta, the GRTs are there to help.
- Area Directors (ADs) are master-level, trained professionals who live in the residence halls and partner with both the students and House Teams to create a living and learning environment that fosters both academic success and personal growth.
- Dean On-Call is a 24-hour crisis response system that is accessible to every MIT student. The Dean On-Call can provide immediate response and support for a variety of student issues including academic, medical and personal concerns.
