Updated Cancellation Policy & Housing Updates

August 13, 2020

Dear Graduate Student,

I hope this message finds you well.  I’m writing to share helpful information with you, including an update to our 2020-2021 license agreement cancellation policy. Please know Housing & Residential Services (HRS) will remain as flexible as possible to accommodate graduate students’ housing needs.

As a reminder, all students with 2020-2021 housing license agreements are welcome to attend the upcoming Graduate Resident Office Hour on Wednesday, August 19 at 7:00 pm EDT.  Topics will include life on campus, graduate housing policies, returning to campus and other housing-specific inquiries.  To RSVP for the event, please visit the HRS website.

As always, if the team at HRS can be helpful with answering your housing-related inquiries, please take a peek at the Fall 2020 graduate housing dashboard for regular updates, or send us an email at gradhousingfall2020@mit.edu.

Sincerely,

TASHA COPPETT
Assistant Director of Off-Campus and Graduate Housing
Housing & Residential Services

  • Updated License Agreement Cancellation Policy:  You may cancel your 2020-2021 housing assignment on or before August 28 without penalty.  If you are seeking to cancel your assignment after August 28, HRS requires 30 days’ advance notice prior to your scheduled move-in day. To learn more, please visit the HRS website.

If circumstances associated with the COVID-19 pandemic alter students’ plans or prevent students from returning to campus through no fault of their own (i.e. travel or visa restrictions), HRS will work with students on a case-by-case basis and will waive any cancellation fees associated with their 2020-2021 on-campus housing license agreements.  We will continue to work with the International Students Office to support international students’ housing needs.

  • Fall 2020 Campus Guide.  Campus life will be different this fall, but don’t worry—we’ve got you covered.  The Division of Student Life has compiled a campus guide to help you navigate life on campus.  The guide will be updated regularly with additional information as it becomes available.

  • Massachusetts Travel Reporting Requirement.  As of August 1, 2020, individuals over the age of 18 entering Massachusetts from any international location, or from a restricted state, are now required to complete the state-mandated Massachusetts Travel Form either immediately prior to arriving, or upon arrival, to Massachusetts.  To learn more about these requirements, please visit the Commonwealth's website.  MIT’s COVID-19 policies for students who arrive to live on campus satisfy the state-mandated testing and quarantine requirements, however, students should still complete the Massachusetts Travel Form if arriving from an international location or a restricted state.

  • COVID-19 Training: MIT Campus Residents.  All residents with access to campus will need to take an online education training that provides information and guidance about COVID-19, guiding principles for safely living on campus, and residential policies and community resources. The training course is now available through the MIT Learning Center in Atlas (Course CSS91041w - MIT credentials required).  It will be a requirement through COVID Pass health monitoring system once you arrive on campus, but you can complete it early and receive course completion credit by going to the Atlas Learning Center now.
