Professional Summary
Barbara Baker is the Senior Associate Dean for Students, overseeing Student Support Services; Public Service Center; Campus Activities Complex; Student Activities Office; Hobby Shop; Office of Student Citizenship; Community Development and Substance Abuse; and Crisis Management.
Barbara joined MIT in July 2001 as the Associate Dean and Director of Student Life Programs. During the past eight years, she has provided leadership to staff teams and programs in many areas of student life. Barbara has served as member of various committees within DSL and across MIT, including the On-Call crisis response team, the DAPER advisory Board, the MIT Medical Management Board, and staffing the Committee on Discipline (COD).
Prior to joining MIT, Barbara was the Dean for Student Development and Residential Education at Duke University for six years. She has worked in higher education for over thirty years at various institutions including Syracuse University, the University of Chicago, and the University of Vermont. Barbara has a Bachelor of Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University and a Masters of Arts from Michigan State University.
