Opportunities to practice and experience leadership abound at MIT across the academic program and throughout extra- and co-curricular offerings, including athletics, student organizations and governments, public service opportunities, competitions, group projects, and in a variety of other contexts. Student Leadership Development is committed to providing opportunities for all students to practice their leadership skills in a variety of ways and to gain the skills and feedback necessary to sharpen and define their abilities. The MIT experience itself is a laboratory for leadership with experiments happening in various contexts and levels throughout the Institute. The Student Leadership Development Initiative intends to build the broad system and infrastructure necessary to support this cross-cutting, Institute-wide laboratory while addressing educational needs in a unique system of leadership development.
