Student Interaction Opportunities

I'd like to advise students at an FSILG

Any member of the MIT faculty can serve as a Faculty Advisor to a Fraternity, Sorority, or Independent Living Group via the Faculty Advising Program. As a Faculty Advisor, your primary roles are to: provide advice, become acquainted with the FSILG's members and mission, serve as a liaison between the FSILG and faculty and administration.

As a faculty member, how can I find information on student interaction opportunities?

The DUE-DSL Collaborations Committee brings together key individuals from the Office of the Dean for Undergraduate Education (DUE) and the Office of the Dean for Student Life (DSL) with the goal of fostering greater connections between student life and learning.  To this effort the Faculty-Student Engagement Guide was created.

I'd like to teach Charm School during IAP

You don't need to be an "expert" to teach a class. We have curriculum for most of the classes, but you are welcome to provide your own. We encourage the development of new and interesting subjects! Fill out the online form to register as a Charm School instructor.

I want to play an intramural sport

MIT students (both undergrad and gradudate students), faculty, and alumni are eligible to play MIT intramurals. Additional informaton about the Intramural Program or specific sports can be obtained in the athletic offices on the second floor of the Zesiger Center, or go online to read more.

I'd like to honor a student for outstanding community participation

There are many award programs for students, both undergraduate and graduate. Each May, through the Awards Convocation, the MIT community gathers to honor its faculty, students, staff, and friends who have contributed significantly to student life and learning. The Student Leaders Recognition Reception, is another way students may be recognized, and this event also occurs each May.

I'm interested in becoming a housemaster

Housemasters are distinguished members of the MIT faculty. They and their families make their homes in one of the campus Houses and share in the life and spirit of their living group. They are appointed by the President of MIT upon the recommendation of the Dean for Undergraduate Education and Student Affairs. Read a description of the Housemaster's Role. For further information on becoming a Housemaster, contact Dean for Student Life, Chris Colombo.
