You will use your MIT ID card for your purchases [TechCASH account], library check-outs, access to your on-campus residence, the Athletics Facilities and/or other MIT buildings, and as your general ID card for MIT events. If you submitted an electronic image of yourself over the summer as part of pre-orientation, your permanent photo ID will be distributed to you during on-campus Orientation. Otherwise, you will receive a temporary ID card at check-in. If you did not submit an electronic image of yourself ahead of time [or if your permanent photo ID card was not distributed to you at check-in] please visit the MIT Card Office [W20-021], with a US driver's license or passport, at your earliest convenience [between 8:30am and 4:30pm, Monday through Friday] before the temporary card’s expiration date. Your picture will be taken and a photo ID card will be printed for you.
If you lose your MIT ID card, first check with the MIT Police [617.253.1212] and the MIT Card Office [617.253.3475] to see if either office has it in their lost and found. If neither office is in possession of your card, you should temporarily deactivate your MIT ID by going to the TechCash website or you can contact the TechCASH Office directly [617.253.2173] or email email@example.com]. Deactivating your card will prevent others from getting into buildings with your card. It will also suspend purchasing privileges if you have a TechCash account.
To get a new card, simply visit the MIT Card Office [W20-021] during business hours [8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday]. There is a $15 replacement fee for lost cards which can be paid by check, cash, or TechCASH. Stolen ID cards are replaced at no cost but you must present a copy of a valid police report [either the MIT Police or the local authority where your ID was stolen] covering the theft of your ID to the Card Office when you request a new ID card.
