Bicycles

Bicycles must not block halls or stairways and must not obstruct handicapped ramps or access ways. Check with the House Operations Manager about bicycle storage facilities within the House.

Refrigerators

You are permitted to keep a refrigerator in your room and in some of the lounges.  You must keep your refrigerator in sanitary condition at all times, including during vacation periods.  The type and placement of your refrigerator is subject to inspectin and approval by your house manager for safety and sanitation.  You are responsible for the cost of any damage caused by your refrigerator.

Refrigerators that use sodium dioxide or ammonia as a refrigerant are prohibited.

Dishwashers and Clothes Washers

Dishwashers and clothes washers are not allowed in Institute Houses. Dishwasher and clothes washers cause low water pressure and electrical draw issues and are therefore prohibited. MIT Housing provides laundry rooms for residential use.

Cooking Appliances

Microwaves, hot plates, toasters, or any other cooking devices are prohibited in student rooms due to Massachusetts state fire safety regulations and risk.
