The Institute’s preparations for flu season include not just medical and academic assistance, but the full support of the Division of Student Life (DSL). If you get the flu, the offices in DSL are here to make sure you get the assistance you need.

Be Prepared.

Visit the MIT Medical website for information on how to minimize the risk of contracting or spreading the flu, when vaccinations will be available, and what to do if you become ill with the flu. These pages are updated regularly and should serve as your primary resource for information about H1N1 on campus.

Stock up early on recommended food, water, and medical supplies in case you become ill and have to stay home. Seek out friends and fellow residents in advance to form a support system, and know who to contact in your Residence Hall or FSILG to alert them should you become ill.

If your roommate has the flu, read MIT Medical's helpful tips on how to stay healthy.

If you begin to feel ill, let MIT Medical know.

Review MIT Medical's H1N1 FAQ or call MIT Medical at (617) 253-4481 to review your symptoms and decide next steps.

MIT Medical, with your permission, will notify the Office of the Dean for Student Life so that your Housemaster, GRT, or RA can check in on you. In addition, Student Support Services will be notified and will send you an email discussing next steps. If you have any questions please call (617) 253-4861.

If you become ill, stay home and get better.

If you're ill, your top priority should be to get well. Follow MIT Medical's guidelines for recovery, which recommend that you stay home and rest. Do not attend class, sports practice, or other activities. We understand how important academics are at MIT, but it is in everyone's interest that you stay home and get well.

Arrange for your meals to be delivered to your residence. MIT Campus Dining offers a meal delivery service for students recovering from the flu.

All MIT dorms and FSILGs have supplies available for flu patients, including face masks, hand sanitizer, and thermometers. Residential Life staff will ensure that someone checks in on you regularly.
